

on the improvement of sanitation in the Low-Income Communities or selected Peri Urban Areas in Kitwe namely Ipusukilo, Amlo, Chipata compound and Kamatipa, Chibote in Kalulushi and Twaiteka in Chambishi. So far the following progress has been recorded:
- In Amlo, 388 toilets have been constructed.
- In Chibote, Kalulushi, 355 sanitation facilities have been completed out of the targeted 400. Construction of 75 toilets is in progress.
- In Chipata compound 820 have been completed.
- In Kamatipa 247 facilities have been completed. Construction of 153 toilets is in progress.
- In Twaiteka, Chambishi construction of 150 toilets is in progress. No toilet has so far been completed out of the planned total of 400.
In Ipusukilo construction of 400 toilets is in progress. 109 toilets have so far been completed out of the planned 400.

- Women are trained and engaged in construction of the sanitation platforms placed on the VIP toilets, in all the project areas
- Men in the project area are engaged as Artisans used to construct the toilets
- Community contribution criteria in all project areas:
- 200 superstructure blocks,
- digging of pits for latrine
- construction of a simple hand washing post,
- dish rack


Output/ Impact
- Reduced Diarrhoea cases
- Control of typhoid incidences and cholera.
- Increased low income households will have improved sanitation facilities
- Community artisans trained in construction works of toilet sub structure and super structure
- Women empowerment through training in Sanitation platform casting, and livelihood improvement through payment for san-plat making
- Improved self-esteem and dignity in community
- Employment opportunities and livelihoods
- Inclusive sanitation for female headed households, vulnerable and differently abled persons.


Nkana Water with Government support is building 250 individual waterborne toilets in Kitwe’s Mindolo D area to replace these ones which are dilapidated. The works are being done at a cost of K8 million.
